Ok, here's where I (Steve McCardell -- Connie's writing mentor) get to speak my OWN mind and embarrass Connie by saying some nice things about her ... while telling you a little about myself.
I have been writing and teaching writing for nearly a decade. I began my career teaching English and creative writing at one of the nation's premiere, private academies. Afterwards, I worked for a monthly paper in Seattle as the reviews editor. And in 2001, I began writing professionally as a freelancer. I've worked on many types of business writing, from PR work to speeches, copywriting, and more. I've also ghostwritten several books.
So what's my involvement with Connie? Connie first got in touch with me a couple years ago to help her with writing three speeches. She was in a contest for SPEAKING English (she is Chinese, actually living in China), and all of the students were assumed to get help with the writing process. So I took this as a regular, paid job.
Boy was I surprised to find this 11-year-old girl who had such sound ideas and knew EXACTLY how the speech should turn out. So we really had some good back-and-forth in developing three solid speeches ... and she took these, memorized all of them, and won second place out of all students in several grades.
The next year she came back for more help, and this time (as memory serves), I decided to help out for free, because I could see so much potential in this bright student! Again, we had some terrific back-and-forth, and this time -- as she had TWICE in past years -- she took first place.
After this, I tried to help Connie for free whenever I had the chance, again because of the potential I saw in her. But eventually, her mom wanted Connie to REALLY improve her writing skills, and wanted me to put in more hours with Connie. So today, I work as a hired tutor with Connie, but we're really doing much more than your average writing assignments. We working on some extraordinary projects -- like this website -- in order to help her fill out her potential.
Connie is honestly one of the brightest students I've had the honor of knowing. Otherwise I would not work with her toward such ambitious goals. When you have her sharp mind helping to develop writing for your business, you can count on fresh insights and a keen eye for the way things ought to be written. I trust she'll do wonders for the clients she takes on.
